Why Multi-Narrative Needs Its Own SEO Checklist

Standard on-page SEO checklists cover title tags, meta descriptions, and header structure. Multi-narrative content requires additional checks — an essential part of the multi-narrative content strategy implementation. For the essential linking architecture that this checklist supports, see the internal linking map. This expanded checklist ensures each narrative angle is individually optimized while contributing to cluster-wide authority. Also run articles through the canonical & duplicate risk guide before publishing.

Per-Article Checklist

Title Tag & Meta Description

  • Title tag includes the primary keyword unique to this article (not shared with any sibling article)
  • Title tag is under 60 characters and compelling enough to earn clicks
  • Meta description is unique across all cluster articles (no copy-paste descriptions)
  • Meta description includes a clear value proposition specific to this narrative angle

Header Structure

  • Single H1 that matches the title tag and clearly states the narrative angle
  • H2 headings break the content into scannable sections with keyword variations
  • No H2 in this article matches an H2 in a sibling article verbatim

Content Differentiation

  • The opening paragraph does NOT begin with a generic topic definition (differentiate immediately)
  • Examples, data points, and case studies are unique to this article
  • If background information is needed from another article, it's linked rather than repeated

Internal Linking

  • Links to the cluster hub/pillar page (at least once)
  • Links to 2-3 related narrative angles within the cluster
  • Anchor text is descriptive and includes target keywords of the linked article
  • No broken internal links

Cluster-Level Checklist

  • No two articles in the cluster share the same primary keyword
  • Every article in the cluster has at least 3 internal links pointing to it
  • The hub page links to every article in the cluster
  • Canonical tags are all self-referencing (no cross-canonicalization within the cluster)
  • No two articles have similar meta descriptions

Technical SEO Checks

  • Schema markup (Article type) with unique headline and description per page
  • Open Graph tags with unique titles and descriptions per page
  • All images have unique, descriptive alt text relevant to the specific narrative angle
  • Page load time under 3 seconds (heavy clusters can slow down if images aren't optimized)
